Severe flooding across Central Europe has led to widespread destruction, with heavy rainfall causing rivers to overflow in countries including the Czech Republic, Poland, and Austria. In the Czech Republic, at least three people have lost their lives, and seven remain missing as rivers burst their banks, overwhelming towns and causing dam breaches. The army has been deployed to assist with evacuations and distribute supplies to stranded residents, especially in hard-hit areas like Ostrava.
In Poland, emergency measures are underway, with rising water levels threatening cities such as Wroclaw and prompting evacuations. Infrastructure in affected regions has suffered extensive damage, with bridges collapsing and homes and vehicles destroyed. Austrian authorities also issued evacuation orders after floodwaters threatened a critical dam in Lower Austria.
As officials coordinate response efforts, thousands remain displaced, and the economic toll is anticipated to be substantial. Governments across the region are mobilizing resources to provide immediate aid and plan for long-term recovery, recognizing this as one of the worst flooding events in decades.
